Vice president Taberna holds an institutional meeting with the director general of the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation, José Moisés Martín

The First Vice President and Minister of Presidency and Equality, Félix Taberna, held a meeting today with the Director General of the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), José Moisés Martín, at the IRIS Navarra Digital Innovation Hub, a leading space in the Comunidad Foral in both innovation and digital transformation.

This state innovation agency is a key structure for promoting innovation based on scientific-technological knowledge within the Spanish business sector, with the aim of achieving globally competitive, sustainable and inclusive growth. The visit of its Director General to Navarra has helped drive future collaborations between the regional government, NASERTIC and CDTI, positioning the IRIS Hub as a national reference in the connection between science, business and public administration. It should be recalled that this infrastructure brings together all knowledge in the Comunidad Foral related to innovation and digitalisation, with the aim of contributing to the technological transformation of companies and Navarrese society.

The event was also attended by Luis Campos, Managing Director of NASERTIC, the public company attached to the Department of Presidency and Equality that manages the IRIS Hub; Agurtzane Martínez, Director General of Science, Technology and Innovation; Ion Arrizabalaga, Coordinator of IRIS Navarra; and Paloma Calzas, Head of the Department of Industrial Technologies at CDTI.

With this meeting, Navarra reaffirms its commitment to innovation, applied research and the attraction of cutting-edge projects, highlighting the strategic role of the Digital Innovation Hub as a key infrastructure for technology transfer, biomedical research and advanced digitalisation.

A leading centre in innovation and digitalisation

During the visit, the spotlight was placed on Navarra’s digital innovation ecosystem, with particular emphasis on the state-of-the-art equipment housed in the Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology and Genomic Sequencing Laboratories, which aim to position Navarra as an international reference in synthetic biology.

With a total area of 215 square metres, the laboratories include spaces and equipment that enable them to offer advanced services in genomic analysis, DNA synthesis, and protein and cell system production and characterisation. These areas are emerging as the next major technological revolution in diverse fields such as biomedicine, food, energy production, information technologies and other key sectors.

It is worth highlighting that the integration, within unique facilities, of leading molecular and synthetic biology laboratories, virtual production and telecommunications spaces—together with coordination with other innovation nodes— positions the IRIS Hub as a leading centre in its field in its field. As a result, it has received recognition from the European Commission as part of the initial EDIH network (European Digital Innovation Hubs), consolidating its role as a key hub at the European level.

The cost of its creation, around 10 million euros, has been funded by the Government of Navarra and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service.
