NASERTIC will invest 900,000€ next year in improvements to Navarra’s Telecommunications Centers and in fiber optic deployment
The public company NASERTIC, affiliated with the Department of Presidency and Equality, will invest 900,000 euros next year in improvements to Navarra’s Telecommunications Centers and in the deployment of fiber optic infrastructure, through a series of actions approved today by its Board of Directors.
On the one hand, in 50 localities between Leitza and Oronoz, the availability of telecommunications services provided by the Government of Navarra will be improved thanks to an investment of 550,000 euros to complete the fiber optic network rollout in the area. This action will also increase the speed and quality of both telephone and internet services in more than 120 public service facilities through which the Government of Navarra provides services to the public (health centers, clinics, schools, high schools, libraries, etc.), all of them located along the A-15, NA-170, N-121-A and N-121-B road corridors.
In addition to the fiber optic deployment, NASERTIC will invest 350,000 euros in the modernization of three Telecommunications Centers located throughout the region. The work, to be carried out in the Zubieta, Olagüe and Zubiri Centers, will focus on electrical conditioning and the supply and installation of backup power systems in order to implement improvements to continue guaranteeing the continuity of telecommunications services provided by the Government of Navarra and to advance in service provision to citizens.
The meeting of the Board of Directors, held today at the Palacio de Navarra, was attended by the First Vice President and Minister of Presidency and Equality, Félix Taberna, and the new Managing Director of the public company, Luis Campos.
Activity Report Since January
The Board of Directors also presented the most relevant data regarding NASERTIC’s activity in the last semester. Regarding the management of the IRIS Navarra Digital Innovation Hub, whose headquarters in El Sario (UPNA) was inaugurated on 4 March, it is noteworthy that more than 1,000 people have visited it, hosting events and visits from both the private and public sectors. During this period, the IRIS Hub has handled 319 inquiries and arranged 173 services. This semester also marks the completion of the expansion and modernization works of the Government of Navarra’s Data Processing Center (CPD), in which 4 million euros have been invested.
Additionally, in May NASERTIC completed the training program on basic digital skills for unemployed women, promoted by the SNE-NL and launched in 2022, training 4,870 people through 553 courses across 72 localities in Navarra. Another digital skills training project managed by NASERTIC and promoted by the Directorate General of Telecommunications and Digitalization is Aventura Digital. So far this year, 92 courses have been delivered and 949 people have been trained in 39 localities.
Regarding telecommunications infrastructure and related services, NASERTIC has deployed fiber optic in four telecommunications centers and is currently working on deployment in three more. It has also carried out several actions aimed at improving the availability of the emergency communications service, including the construction of a new telecommunications center in Urbasa and improvements to the power systems at the Abodi center. Work is also underway, with the same objective, on the construction of a new telecommunications center in the Bardenas Reales. Meanwhile, the DTT Infrastructure Renewal Plan is underway in Zone II (hard-to-access areas) to achieve optimal fiber optic and television signal coverage.
In the field of personalized medicine, it is noteworthy that the installation and commissioning at the IRIS Navarra Hub of more than 40 state-of-the-art devices—together with its specialized and trained staff—have turned these facilities into unique laboratories in Europe, making the Comunidad Foral a reference in synthetic biology, molecular biology, genomic sequencing, bioinformatics, AI and supercomputing.
Meanwhile, the Territorial Innovation Center of Navarra (CIT) has progressed in recent months with the development of its strategic and operational plans and the establishment of its governance model, in addition to the official presentation of CIT Navarra in Sangüesa and Estella, the areas where its actions will be focused and where it will have two headquarters. Currently, two projects are already underway in both areas: specialized training in care services in Tierra Estella and digital mentoring for establishments in the Sangüesa region.
Actions Within the CPEN Strategic Plan
The actions described fall within the CPEN Strategic Plan, which identifies digital transformation and the stimulation of economic activity in Navarra as one of its priority pillars, with the development of ecosystems and infrastructures acting as a key driver. This plan seeks to create an environment conducive to innovation, business competitiveness and investment attraction, in line with European guidelines on digital transition and sustainability.
In this context, the initiatives promoted by CPEN are not conceived as isolated actions, but as part of an integrated strategy aimed at strengthening public-private collaboration, fostering technological entrepreneurship and ensuring equitable access to digital resources across the territory. It also prioritizes the creation of intelligent and resilient infrastructures that serve as a basis for the implementation of new production models and advanced services.
These actions directly contribute to achieving CPEN’s strategic objectives, including developing innovation spaces that act as hubs for talent and knowledge attraction and promoting a robust technological infrastructure that facilitates connectivity, cybersecurity and advanced data processing.
