Government of Navarre Upgrades Public DTT Network Equipment to Expand Channel Offering in 107 Municipalities
The Government of Navarre is carrying out an upgrade of the equipment in the public Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network with the aim of expanding the range of available channels and improving service quality in various municipalities of the Chartered Community, particularly in 107 municipalities in rural areas.
The initiative will make it possible to add eight new television channels, corresponding to the national multiplexes MPE4 and MPE5. These multiplexes are digital signals that group several DTT channels within a single broadcast frequency and are currently operational in the public network. Specifically, the new configuration will allow the broadcast of Mega, Trece, Energy and Boing on the MPE4 multiplex, and A3Series, BeMadTV HD, Real Madrid TV HD and TEN on the MPE5 multiplex.
The works, which began in March, have already been completed in some municipalities such as Agorreta, Aguilar de Codés, Aibar / Oibar, Aizarotz, Akerreta, Alkotz, Amurgin, Ariztegi, Arraioz, Arraitz-Orkin, Auza, Ayesa, Azuelo, Beartzun, Beorburu, Berro, Cabredo, Elizondo, Eltso, Eltzaburu, Esquíroz, Eslava, Espronceda, Etxaide, Ezcároz / Ezkaroze, Gallipienzo / Galipentzu, Gallipienzo Nuevo, Gallués / Galoze, Gascue / Gaskue, Genevilla, Gerendiain, Goldaratz, Gorrontz-Olano, Guelbenzu / Gelbentzu, Güesa / Gorza, Ibilcieta / Ibiltzieta, Iciz / Izize, Idoi, Igal / Igari, Ilarratz, Ilarregi, Iraizotz, Irañeta, Iriberri, Irure, Irurita, Izalzu / Itzaltzu, Jaurrieta, Larraintzar, Larrasoaña, Latasa, Leache / Leatxe, Lekaroz, Leranotz, Lerga, Lizaso, Lozen, Marañón, Mardea, Moriones, Navascués / Nabaskoze, Ochagavía / Otsagabia, Oharriz, Orokieta-Erbiti, Oronz / Orontze, Osacáin, Osteritz, Ripa / Erripa, Ripalda / Erripalda, Sada, Saigots, Sarriés / Sartze, Suarbe, Torralba del Río, Uharte, Uharte Arakil, Urdaitz / Urdániz, Urritzola-Galain, Uscarrés / Uskartze, Ustés, Zamartze, Zenotz, Ziga, Zubiri and Zúñiga.
The First Vice-President and Minister for the Presidency and Equality, Javier Remírez, highlighted that this initiative reflects the regional government’s commitment to territorial cohesion and equal access to public services. “Ensuring that anyone, wherever they live, can access basic services such as digital television on equal terms is part of our territorial model. Access to information and audiovisual services is also a matter of social and territorial cohesion,” he said.
Remírez also stressed that the public telecommunications network enables rural municipalities or those with particularly challenging terrain to access audiovisual services under conditions equivalent to those in urban areas, thereby strengthening Navarre’s territorial cohesion.
For his part, the Minister of Universities, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Juan Luis García, noted that this upgrade is part of the ongoing process to modernize Navarre’s public digital infrastructure. “Updating the equipment of the public telecommunications network allows us to improve service quality, expand the range of content and ensure that citizens have access to audiovisual services anywhere in the territory,” he explained. García added that such actions “help to strengthen the Chartered Community’s strategic digital infrastructure and continue progress toward an inclusive and territorially balanced digital transformation model.”
To carry out the installation, integration and commissioning of the new equipment, temporary interruptions to the television signal will be necessary. These interruptions are expected to last less than five hours at each telecommunications center. The work will take place over the next six months and will be organized by weeks depending on the center serving each municipality. The Government of Navarre has asked local councils to help disseminate this information among residents through usual municipal channels, such as public notices, websites or social media, in order to minimize any inconvenience.
Once the technical works are completed, residents will need to retune their televisions or DTT receivers in order to view both the existing channels and the newly added ones correctly. An email address (info@nasertic.es) and a phone number (848 423 845) have been made available for further information.
Guaranteeing DTT Coverage for All Municipalities in Navarre
The Government of Navarre’s public telecommunications network, managed by the publicly owned company NASERTIC, ensures—among other services—the coverage of digital terrestrial television in those municipalities that fall outside the coverage obligations of DTT service license holders (national DTT service providers are required to ensure coverage for at least 96% of the Spanish population).
The telecommunications centers that support this service are critical infrastructure for ensuring the operation of the emergency communications network (used by emergency services such as 112, firefighters and police), as well as for providing coverage in remote areas for services such as connectivity for administrative offices, healthcare centers and educational institutions.
Through this infrastructure, the regional government continues to promote a public connectivity model aimed at guaranteeing equal access to information and communication services for all citizens, regardless of where they live.
